By biological standards and my Indian family, I am an “older” Mom. I had my son when I was 34, my daughter at 35. My son is 3 and my daughter is 2 and besides being my husband’s better half, being their Mother is the most important thing in the world to me.I was a Movie Executive for many years before I decided to take a shot at being a Movie Producer working for myself while I tried to have my two kids – something I was told would be an impossible feat.
When I was 16, I was diagnosed with PCOS, a condition that back in the day, made having a baby highly unlikely and in this day and age, makes it difficult. I spent the next 16 years after learning that news, doing research on my condition and how I could overcome my obstacles. With diet and exercise, I managed to “trick” my body into being normal – well almost. Shockingly to every doctor who has ever read my hormone levels, I was able to get pregnant on my own each time. But as I said, my body is “almost” normal. Carrying my kids (both of whom were high risk pregnancies) was extremely challenging. I spent so many years trying to figure out how to get my body back on track and carry healthy babies, that I was very unprepared for what would be the was the biggest challenge of them all – Parenthood.
See I’m a researcher in my nature. I spent my internship working for one of the best Documentary Filmmakers and then used what I learned to come up with original movie ideas in Hollywood. Most of the movies I sold are based on my research.
As a Mom, being a researcher and well, an information junkie has its disadvantages. Especially when you are a neurotic New Yorker like I am. But, my attitude is to not freak out about everything and every little thing that goes on or in their body (as much as I want to). In fact, being armed with knowledge makes me less paranoid about all of it rather than more.
I hope this website will help you find a way to deal with the explosion of information out there about raising your kid and help you find the two things that you need to be armed with the most – a sense of humor and a relaxed attitude.
